Core Tip: US-based Euro Foods, which also does business as Citterio USA, is recalling approximately 5,156lbs of a chorizo products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, according to FSIS.

The products contain soy protein, which is an allergen that is not declared on the label.

This recall includes 7-oz packages of Citterio Rustico Chorizo Spanish Style, containing 24 pieces of chorizo. Each package has an expiration date of either 8/12/12, 9/29/12, or 11/30/12, with identifying lot numbers 659 or 135.

The products were produced on 5 November 2011, and 28 February 2012, and were distributed to retail establishments and wholesale distributors in Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Tennessee and Texas.

The problem was identified by FSIS personnel during a routine food safety assessment and may have occurred as a result of a change in the ingredient formulation of a spice mix used in the product. FSIS and the company have not received reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product.
