Core Tip: A chicken processor has been hit with a proposed fine of US$67,600 (€54,779) by the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
MB Consultants Ltd, doing business in the US as Murray’s Chickens, was cited for eight alleged violations of workplace safety and health standards at the South Fallsburg chicken processing facility.

The serious violations include failing to adequately guard processing machinery against contact with workers and to provide workers with information and training on specific hazards involving disinfectants and other chemicals used in work areas.

Kimberly Castillon, OSHA’s area director in Albany said: "The absence of adequate machine guarding and hazardous energy control procedures exposes workers to the dangers of lacerations, amputations and crushing injuries, should they become caught in operating or unexpectedly activated machinery.

"Such conditions should be addressed and abated quickly and effectively."

MB Consultants has 15 business days to comply with the proposed penalties, request a meeting with OSHA officials or contest the fines.
