I.F.T. unveils innovation award winners

Core Tip: Members of the Institute of Food Technologist presented Advantix Systems, Ampac, Ecolab and Glanbia Nutritionals with the 2012 IFT Food Expo Innovation Awards at the I.F.T.’s annual meeting and food expo being held this week in Las Vegas.
Advantix Systems, Miami, was given the award for its liquid desiccant dehumidification and cooling technology that reduces energy use by 50%.

“Advantix is committed to creating products that promote energy-efficient and clean environments for the food technology, manufacturing and service industries,” said Hannah Choi Granade, president of Advantix Systems. “We are honored to be recognized by the I.F.T. food expo for our technology innovation that is helping food processors around the world understand the benefits of energy efficiency and how it can impact their bottom line.”

Ampac Holdings, L.L.C., Cincinnati, was recognized for its No. 2 pouch that the I.F.T. said is recyclable packaging and yields a pouch with “excellent stiffness and strength characteristics” as well as high barrier to moisture and puncture resistance.

St. Paul, Minn.-based Ecolab was noted for its RAC residual antimicrobial coating program consisting of E.P.A.-registered products that enhance food safety.

Glanbia Nutritionals, Monroe, Wis., was recognized for its Optisol 2000 binding system for sugar reduction. The binding system is a milk protein concentrate that is able to reduce sugar usage up to 50% in many food applications.
