Core Tip: Malaysia is establishing a Centre for Food Safety and an International Food Safety Training Laboratory. The project is likely to cost the government MYR56m ($20m).
The construction of the center, which will be located at Salak Tinggi, Selangor, will begin in 2012 and is expected to be completed in two years, reported thestar.com.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that the Centre of Food Safety will aid the Health Ministry by providing scientific inputs which will help in taking science-based decisions, besides boosting consumer confidence both in the domestic and international markets.

The International Food Safety and Training Laboratory will boost the food safety services in the region and will also work as a facility to conduct food research and tests. The lab will be located within the center.
