More details of the Agency’s food safety preparations for the Olympics can be found in this month's FSA e-News, which is available at the link below.
One legacy of the Games that is already coming to fruition is the extension of the Agency's Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme across most of London. Three quarters of London boroughs have now introduced or transferred over to this unified scheme.
The Agency has also been ensuring that the benefits of its expertise are felt far away from the Olympics.
The FSA in Scotland's Food Hygiene Information Scheme has now reached out into Atlantic, to the archipelago of St Kilda – the remotest place in the British Isles. Nearer to the equator, an FSA veterinarian, Massimo Rescigno, has become the Agency’s first international staff ambassador, assisting the charity Farm Africa to train Kenyan farmers to improve food standards.

And, while the Agency hopes that it will now be a case of 'plain sailing' in terms of food safety for the Games, its Incidents Unit staff will be available seven days a week to tackle food poisoning, contamination and fraud, should they arise.
