Core Tip: A US firm has recalled approximately 314 pounds of sausage products over fears that they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Announcing the recall, the  US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that the recall applied to 1.5lb and 2lb packages of ‘Cedar Grove Red Hots’ from the Enslin & Son Packing Company which bore the number ‘P-31806’ inside the USDA inspection mark and had a use-by date of ‘09/24/2012’ or ‘09/28/2012’.

The contamination was discovered as result of routine testing and there have been no reports of illness associated with consumption of the product.

Listeria is the leading cause of death amongst foodborne bacterial pathogens, causing approximately 2,500 illnesses and 500 deaths in the US every year.
