Online advertising in Australia for the 12 months ended 30 June 2012 has reached $3.14bn, which has beaten the previous record by more than $549 million.  The figures come from a report by the Interactive Advertising Bureau.

The report reveals a number of interesting trends in the habits of advertisers and reinforces the shift from the traditional method of televised advertising to other digital media. The figures showed that the online advertising platform will overtake television advertising expenditure by 2013 and should also beat print, currently the largest sector, by 2014.

Marketers, media buyers and businesses alike continue to adapt to and strategise new ways to reach, engage and influence target audiences so the report comes as a leading influencer in future advertising decision making.

The explosion of smart phone devices on the market has added $47.4 million to advertising sales and accounts for 67.7 per cent of all ad revenue on mobile phones. Tablet devices account for 32.3 percent of mobile devices.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau reports on the dynamics of the Australian advertising industry. This year’s report is also the first report on mobile advertising expenditure in Australia.  Its latest quarterly Online Advertising Expenditure Report is collated from independent, professional data about the state of online advertising expenditure.
