Rite Aid announced this week that it will soon carry Wholesome Goodness, a natural food brand, on its shelves in stores across the country. In response to this, Massage School San Diego, which helps people find the right San Diego massage school for their needs, has issued its support for the store’s move toward healthier food, concluding that it will not only provide more options for natural health patrons, but it will serve to further the holistic health movement as a whole.

Rite Aid has announced that it will now carry a unique line of all-natural foods called Wholesome Goodness, making it the first drug store chain in the country to do so. Wholesome Goodness stresses the use of whole grains and fibers, and emphasizes the avoidance of sugars, salt and fat content. In fact, 126 ingredients are banned from WG’s products altogether; these include everything from artificial additives and sweeteners to high fructose corn syrup and trans fats. All in all, the Wholesome Goodness line includes 25 nutrition-packed food items, including chips, trail mix, cereal, juice, various sauces and more. Each is made of all-natural ingredients.

Rite Aid is a U.S. drug store chain with more than 4,700 store locations across the country. Founded in 1962 in Scranton, Penn., Rite Aid was first known as Thrif D Discount Center; it wasn’t until 1968 that the company changed its name to Rite Aid. Within the first 10 years of operation, the company had expanded to 267 locations across 10 states. Now, Rite Aid is a Fortune 500 company (No. 11 on the 2011 list) and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

Wholesome Goodness is a natural food line started in February 2012. The company touts a healthy, nutrition-heavy food at affordable prices. They also offer many food items that are gluten free and kosher. In addition to helping customers improve their health, Wholesome Goodness also works to help the environment, too. The company uses recyclable materials and renewable resources in its packaging, and it manufactures most of its food in LEED-certified buildings. Wholesome Goodness also avoids the use of plastics.

Though the meaning of “natural foods” tends to vary, in most cases, it refers to unprocessed, untreated foods that do not contain man-made or manufactured ingredients. In general, natural foods don’t contain additives, such as colorings, flavorings, or sweeteners, and are free of hormones, antibiotics and other treatments.

MSSD offers its support for Rite Aid as it moves to further the holistic health industry by providing all-natural foods in its stores.
