Core Tip: The New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed that several Chinese-made baby food firms are falsely claiming that their product is produced in New Zealand.
This problem was identified after nearly 20 Chinese baby food manufacturers falsely labeled their products as 'Made in New Zealand' at a major Mother and Baby expo in Shanghai, according to media reports.

The Chinese companies used the Trade and Enterprise fern logo which is a registered trademark in China. In addition, an image of New Zealand Prime Minister John Key was also featured on the products.

The ministry noted that it is taking the issue seriously and has filed complaints with Chinese authorities, in order to protect the image and safety of New Zealand food exports.

In addition, an industry watchdog group, Instant Milk Formula Exporters, has been established to investigate the matter.
