An art student and fashion entrepreneur who is responsible for paying the entire cost of her college education, a student planning a career in health with an emphasis on care in Africa, the child of a disabled father from a financially-burdened family who maintains a 4.1 grade point average on a career path in medicine and an Army Reservist and student pursuing a career as a military psychologist.
These students and six others with equally impressive records of achievement will receive $2,500 scholarships from the WSWA Educational Foundation, the charitable arm of the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA). The competitive awards are presented each year to college student dependents of WSWA member firm employees.
“Students who earned WSWA Educational Foundation scholarships stand out from the field and deserve to be rewarded for their success. They are on the path toward bright and successful futures,” says WSWA President and CEO Craig Wolf.
“Higher education costs continue to rise—while the value of that education becomes increasingly important to students. These scholarships are one way WSWA can help support industry employees and their families,” he adds. “Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America members set the standard for supporting our people and our communities,” Wolf adds.
The 2012 scholarship winners come from eight states and were selected from a competitive field of 270 applicants, based on scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities and essays outlining their career goals.
The WSWA Educational Foundation will offer these scholarships again next year. The scholarship competition is open to college-going dependents of WSWA member company employees.
