The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has issued a consumer adviser for products manufactured by Turner Cheese, a dairy firm based in Whittemore, Michigan.

The health alert includes the following products: Co-jack, Cheddar, Jalapeno Cheddar, and Garlic Herb cheese and cheese curds.

MDARD noted that the milk the cheese was made from was deemed unfit for human consumption because it was held at 63 degrees F for an extended time. This can allow a proliferation of bacteria and result in inadequate pasteurization.

The products under this advisory were produced on 11 August 2012 and sold in various weights in curd or finished product form. These products will be labeled with the company name, Turner Cheese Company, and may be marked with lot codes 80912-18 and 80911-18. Some packages may not bear a lot code or date.

The products were sold at the retail counter located at Turner Cheese Company. However, it is unknown whether products were also sold to other wholesalers, distributors or retailers in the area.

There have been no reports of illness associated with these products at this time. Consumers who have any product covered by this advisory should not consume it and should discard it immediately.
