UK-based dairy cooperative and processing firm First Milk has launched its sustainability report which outlines its plans to develop a sustainable supply chain.
In co-operation with Oxford-based Food Animal Initiative (FAI), the program aims to drive economic, environmental and ethical sustainability in the supply chain.
The program focuses on the five following areas: feed for the future;cow and calf; wheels, yields and deals;reduce, renew, recycle; and food for the future, reported Fwi.co.uk.
First Milk CEO Kate Allum said that it is important to lower the farmer's feed bills; improve cow and calf health; and control and reduce waste water and energy.
"Most importantly they deliver an economic benefit to our farmers, either directly on-farm or through maximizing the returns we can pass back to them", added Allum.
