In his opening remarks, Minister McEntee welcomed all who attended the Feed Forum, saying "The theme of the forum of 'Future Potential and Challenges' is most appropriate and while the challenges are very real in the present climate, I am convinced that there is significant potential for the expansion of the grain and feedingstuffs sector in the future, especially in the context of the successful implementation of the 'Harvest 2020' programme. Since Ireland is only 75% self-sufficient in cereals, the maintenance of an efficient and viable cereals industry in Ireland is very important for Irish agricultural development. In addition to generating an income for our tillage farmers, the sector is a key source of feeding stuffs for livestock production".
The Minister of State concluded by saying "I would like to compliment the work of the Irish Grain and Feed Association for your contribution to Irish agriculture and to the grain and feed sector in particular. I am aware you have worked closely with my Department and all stakeholders in the industry and contributed to the development of policy and legislation both at national and EU level".

The Irish Grain and Feed Association (IGFA) is the representative body of the grain and feed industry and is recognised by Government as the official voice of the industry.
The Association embraces four categories of members:
- Animal compound feed manufacturers
- Grain merchants
- Grain and ingredient importers and traders
- Suppliers to the industry
