Tuv India, a subsidiary of German technical provider Tuv Nord, has entered into high-end testing services by constructing a food testing laboratory in Pune, India, with an investment of €5m.
The new laboratory will be involved in the testing of agricultural and processed food as well as material, animal feed, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, in accordance with the national and international standards.
The facility has been constructed on a 30,000ft2 of land and also features a Center of Excellence for Food Safety, reported the Business Standard.
Tuv India managing director Anil Rairikar remarked that with the implementation of the new Food Safety & Standards Act, the foods products will undergo quality testing which for safety aspects such as pesticide residues, toxins, dioxins, antibiotic and hormone residues.
"TUV India is confident of fulfilling this need. The laboratory will shortly also be seeking EIC, BIS, FDA and German QS approvals, among others," added Rairikar.
While the lab is not fully fuctional, the company expects it to generate revenues of INR10m ($186,581) per month by the end of this year.
TUV currently operates in 70 countries currently and plans to operate in markets like Middle East, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia for expansion.
