The annual event celebrates the best of UK livestock farming with competitive classes where handlers old and young demonstrate their knowledge and skill in showing farm animals off to the highest of standard, enthuses show chairman Ray Nield.

“The quality of livestock shown here at the English Winter Fair is the envy of any show organiser,” he says.

Running alongside the main livestock competitions there are classes for young handlers supported by retail giant Asda and the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs.

Elsewhere at the weekend event - accessed easily being just four miles from J14 of the M6 along the A518 - local food producers and caterers will be vying for prizes in the British Pig Executive-backed Products competitions.

This annual attraction celebrates everything from the humble banger to the best hot or cold eating pies, home-cured bacon and gammon all produced using prime British meat.

If that’s wetted your appetite there is time to book tickets for a discounted price of just £8/adult (£10 on the gate) by calling 01283 820012. Helping keep family finances in order all accompanied under 16s and YFC members gain free admission and there is no charge for parking at the event. Doors open at 9.30am each day.

In addition to the farming festival there is a separate Christmas Fayre retail area offering quality gifts and crafts from seasonal foods to fashion wear, pictures and painting, and jewellery - all from quality suppliers.

For those looking to secure a champion Christmas bird for pre-year end celebrations, on Sunday 18th the English Winter Fair hosts a festive auction of championship fowl where local butchers, caterers and charity fund-raisers vie for the event’s top title takers.
