Three Neptune Technologies employees have died after ‘horrific’ explosion completely destroyed the company’s production facility in Sherbrooke, Quebec on 8 November.

A further 18 were injured, four of whom are seriously ill in hospital after a fire and explosion swept across the site.

All of Neptune’s krill oil products at the plant were destroyed but an expansion facility being built next to the site was undamaged.

Neptune said that it is concentrating on meeting the needs of its employees and their families in the wake of the accident.

“Our hearts are greatly traumatised by this horrible catastrophe that will remain in our minds forever. Our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families,” stated Henri Harland, Neptune’s president and chief executive.

“The strength of Neptune has been built on the commitment and dedication of our employees, and I am confident that this same resolve will allow us collectively to overcome this tragic event and rebound from it.”

The firm is has launched an investigation into the tragic accident and is working with Quebec’s Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST) to provide employees with counselling.

Neptune said that it is working on a strategy to restore production and meet soaring global demand for its krill oil products.

Trading of Neptune shares on the NASDAQ Stock Market and the Toronto Stock Exchange has been suspended indefinitely.
