Fast food chain McDonald's will celebrate the Australia Day falling on 26 January 2013 by changing its name to 'Macca' for the entire month.

The signage change will take place at 13 outlets in New South Wales and Queensland to begin with and will be followed outlets in Victoria, South Australia and West Australia.

Commenting on first-of-its-kind singage change McDonald's Australia chief marketing officer Mark Lollback stated that Australia Day marks the perfect time for the company to adopt the moniker that at least 50% of the locals use for the chain.

"What better way to show Aussies how proud we are to be a part of the Australian community than by changing our store signs to the name the community has given us?" said Lollback.

The chain will revert to its original name at all outlets starting 4 February 2013.
