Amul Dairy, a milk brand marketed by India-based Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), is set to open INR1.6bn ($29.92m) modern dairy facility at Virar, Maharashtra, in February. This will be Amul's sixth dairy facility in the country.
Amul Dairy's managing director Rahul Kumar was quoted by Times of India as saying that this will be the first dairy plant to have a completely automatic traffic management system with robots used for milk packing operations.
The diary plant will have a 50,000 litre milk reception, processing, automatic online standardization and homogenization line, and dedicated facilities that use robots to manufacture fermented milk products.
The plant is spread over 11 acres. Amul has decided to procure locally up to 0.2 million litres per day of milk by establishing cooperative societies in the areas between Manor and Vasai-Virar.
