“Doc” Anderson (R-Waco) and Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) recognized Big Red Inc. as a Texas Treasure on the House and Senate floors at the State Capitol in Austin yesterday.

“Big Red is proud to be from Texas and has been part of the Texas fabric for over 75 years,” Big Red, Inc. CEO Gary Smith said. “We’re honored that the Texas legislature is taking time to recognize our ‘Deliciously Different’ soda.”

“The businesses recognized exemplify the reason a company remains successful year after year,” said Sen. Van de Putte. “Hard work, quality service, and resourcefulness go a long way in the Lone Star State and we’re pleased to recognize those traits.”

The distinction from the Texas Historical Commission honors businesses that have been in existence for more than 50 years. Created in 2005, the Texas Treasure Business program recognizes well-established Texas companies and their exceptional historical contributions to the state’s economic growth and prosperity. Big Red, Inc. joins 35 other Texas businesses who share this recognition.

“We’re proud of all our historic businesses,” said Rep. Anderson. “These are businesses that give back to their communities, not just in job growth and expanded tax revenues, but as friends and neighbors who people come to depend on year after year.”

Big Red was established in 1937 in Waco. In 2012, Big Red Inc. celebrated its milestone 75th Anniversary with an under the cap promotion that awarded thousands of vintage Big Red prizes to loyal fans. This year Big Red is teaming up with 20th Century Fox Film to promote the latest movie in the Die Hard franchise “A Good Day to Die Hard”.

“It is a privilege for us to recognize our long-established businesses that have remained committed to Texans for generations, while creating jobs and stimulating economic growth,” said THC Chairman Matt Kreisle. “May this recognition serve to increase your success and productivity for many years to come.”
