US-based chemical company FMC has acquired the pectin-related intellectual property developed by Vigido, a subsidiary of UniPektin Ingredients.
Vigido is the former exclusive marketer of the pectin products of Pectine Italia, a company whose pectin business FMC acquired in 2012.
FMC noted that the acquisition of Vigido's pectin know-how and customer data significantly strengthens its pectin range with expertise in marketing and R&D knowledge.
In addition, the pectin business provides FMC BioPolymer with:enhanced ability to serve a wide range of low pH food applications; a broader product line to provide customized food ingredient solutions; and easier access to customer applications for the pectin produced in the FMC BioPolymer's Milazzo pectin facility in Italy, the company said.
Vigido products previously marketed under the Vidopectine brand will now be available from FMC BioPolymer.
FMC BioPolymer Food Ingredients general manager Mary Clarke said this acquisition enriches the company's expertise and capabilities in natural-based food ingredients.
"For our pectin business, Vigido's pectin market and application knowledge and formulation experience complements our existing strength in manufacturing and our more than 65 years of experience in the food industry, to solidify our position in the pectin market," Clarke added.
