Todd Bastean, currently chief financial officer of Bunge North America, has been appointed chief executive officer of Bunge North America, effective June 1. He will take over for Soren Schroder, who will become c.e.o. of Bunge Ltd. on June 1. Alberto Weisser, currently c.e.o. of Bunge Ltd., previously said he plans to retire.
Alberto Weisser, chairman and c.e.o. of Bunge Ltd., said Mr. Bastean has nearly 20 years of experience with Bunge North America and has “been instrumental” in the division’s success.
“He knows our North American business inside and out, having served as c.f.o., as a manager of key operations and in a variety of functional roles,” Mr. Weisser said. “I am confident that Todd will be an effective leader of this important part of Bunge’s business and a valuable member of the company's global management team.”
Mr. Bastean began working for Bunge in 1994. He served in such positions as vice-president and general manager of the operating company’s milling and biofuels business units and vice-president and chief administrative officer of its grain and milling business units before becoming c.f.o. of Bunge North America in 2010.
Mr. Bastean received a B.S. in accounting from Western Illinois University. Before joining Bunge he worked for KPMG Peat Marwick, an audit, tax and advisory services firm.
