On June 14, 2013, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) notified the WTO of its Proposed Revision of the Specification and Standards for Foods and Food Additives under the Food Sanitation Act. The proposal revises the standards of use for various processing aids. The comment deadline is August 12, 2013.

Japan’s food additive use regulations are included in the International Food Additive Database, though processing aids typically do not fall within the scope of the database. More information on Japan’s regulations can be found on MHLW’s Food Additive page.
