India-Outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome

Core Tip: India reported its first outbreak of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). The outbreak was reported on a swine farm in Aizawal district of the Mizoram state.
On June 26, 2012, India reported its first outbreak of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome on a swine farm in Aizawal district of the Mizoram state. The details of Government of India (GOI) June 26 notification can be accessed at:

This is the first time that porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome has been identified in the history of India though the source of outbreak is unknown.
In response to the outbreak, various control measures have been taken which includes:
 Quarantine
 Movement control inside the country
 Screening
 Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s), and
 Treatment of affected animals
