The National Fisheries Institute's (NFI) Shrimp Council on Monday began taking advantage of social media network Pinterest.
Pinterest — which allows users to visually share, curate and discover new interests by “pinning” images and videos — has become a magnet for recipe-sharing, being repined 42 percent more than any other type of pin. The council has created “Eat Shrimp” pin boards, to share shrimp dishes.
“Sharing images of mouth-watering shrimp dishes with links to trusted recipes through Pinterest is a natural way to support The Shrimp Council’s goal of keeping shrimp in its top spot over all other seafood,” said Judy Dashiell, National Fisheries Institute/The Shrimp Council senior VP.
To celebrate the debut, the council is hosting the “Summer of Shrimp: Fire it Up!” sweepstakes with Weber-Stephen Products, makes of the Weber Grill. Beginning today and extending through 29 July, the sweepstakes calls participants to follow Eat Shrimp on Pinterest where they can pin their favorite shrimp recipes.
On 31 July, four sweepstakes participants will be randomly selected to each receive the 2013 Performer Silver charcoal grill in addition to a Weber Original Stainless Steel Small Fish Basket and a pair of Weber Original Stainless Steel Pincer Tongs.
The Shrimp Council first entered the world of social media in 2011 with the launch of the Eat Shrimp Facebook page, which now has more than 76,000 followers.
