Another Alaska fishery has entered the assessment process for Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification, according to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI).

The Alaska flatfish fishery, which covers the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands and the Gulf of Alaska, is seeking the RFM sustainability ecolablel, which the fishery’s products will carry if it meets the RFM criteria.

ASMI created the RFM program based on standards from the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, and is promoting RFM as an alternative to the Marine Stewardship Council certification program.
