National Beef Packing Co., Dodge City, Kan., recalled approximately 690 lbs. of beef tongue root filet products on concerns the product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported.
FSIS monitoring uncovered the problem, the agency said. Tests confirmed a positive result for E. coli. Further investigation found National Beef Packing was the sole supplier of the source materials used to produce the product, according to FSIS.
The products were produced on Aug. 19 and were shipped to a distributor in Amarillo, Texas, for further processing. No illnesses have been reported.
The products affected by the recall are 30-lb. boxes of “National Beef” Beef Tongue Root Filet, Product Code “12753.” The products bear the establishment number “EST. 262” inside the USDA mark of inspection and include a pack date of “081913A.”
