Portland, Ore.-based Siberoni expanded its previous recall of raw and frozen meat and poultry ravioli products, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported. The pelmeni, Eastern European-style ravioli, were produced without the benefit of inspection.
The company announced a recall of 169,655 lbs. of raw and frozen meat and poultry ravioli products on Sept. 17. While at a distributor, and FSIS investigator found product originally thought to have been produced while under suspension. However, further investigation found the ravioli were produced before Siberoni's suspension, but without the benefit of inspection. There have been no reports of illness associated with the pelmeni, FSIS reported.
Products subject to recall include:
• 1 lb. packages, in 40-lb.cases, of “Siberoni” brand Chicken Pelmeni
• 1 lb. packages, in 40-lb. cases, of “Siberoni” brand Beef Pelmeni
• 1 lb. packages, in 40-lb. cases, of “Siberoni” brand Beef and Pork Pelmeni
• 1 lb. packages, in 40-lb. cases, of “Siberoni” brand Pork Pelmeni
All these products bear the establishment number “33788” or “P-33788” inside a USDA mark of inspection or elsewhere on the package, FSIS said. The products were produced before Sept. 6, 2013 and were sold directly from Siberoni's storefront and, via a distributor, to retail outlets in Oregon and Washington State.
