Local employees representing Cargill’s three businesses in Camrose, Alberta, visited community organizations today to announce ongoing partnerships with donations of $15,000 each and volunteer support directed by their Cargill Cares Councils.
“Cargill is dedicated to helping the communities where we live, work and thrive,” said Nathan Harty, Cargill Grain and Oil Seed Crush project manager. “We are expanding our presence in the community as we are building a new canola crushing facility in Camrose. Our employees are passionate about supporting both Neighbor Aid food bank and the Battle River Watershed Alliance (BRWA) as they recognize the value and impact both groups have in the area,” added Harty.
David Samm, Battle River Watershed Alliance’s general manager said, "Cargill’s contribution enables our staff to expand the reach of our programs and helps make our programs affordable for all. On behalf of our board and staff, we are pleased to work in partnership with Cargill to sustain our watershed for present and future generations.” Samm noted that the financial contribution from Cargill will be used to support watershed education programs and will provide new opportunities for people to learn about the watershed they live, work and play in.
“Cargill’s support of $15,000 will help Neighbor Aid to continue to address the food insecurity in our community,” said Jo-Anne Tweed, Neighbor Aid program director.
“We are serving approximately 150 families and single persons a month at the food bank. We supply food for the breakfast program in six local schools, and three days a week we have a free soup and sandwich program available to anyone who is hungry. Cargill’s donation will help put food on the table for those in need; help feed hungry students and will assist in other programs run under Neighbor Aid. We are excited and look forward to the opportunity to form a long-lasting partnership with Cargill,” added Tweed.
Cargill employees have been actively involved in supporting both organizations for a number of years and have established strong ties with the teams of dedicated staff that run programing that focuses on issues like food accessibility and educating youth on sustaining healthy environments.
“It means a lot to us to be able to help these organizations in areas where they may need a little extra support this busy time of year,” said Thomas Mauthe, Cargill AgHorizons employee and Cargill Cares committee member. “We recently visited with Neighbor Aid food bank, and to understand firsthand the need that exists here in Camrose opened our eyes to the amount of support that is needed year-round. I’m proud to be a part of a community that cares so much,” Mauthe added.
