Swiss group Syngenta AG, which specialises in producing seeds and pesticides, plans to enter the Angolan market in 2014, the group’s director for Africa and the Middle East, Jan Suter said in Basel.

During a visit by the Angolan ambassador to Switzerland, Suter said that the group was following Angola’s economic development, as it might have a role to play in agricultural production in the country given the types of product it sells.

Suter also told the ambassador that the group would be part of a business mission die to travel to Angola in April 2014 and added that a team would later be sent to evaluate water resource potential, arable land and agronomy training schools.

Syngenta AG, which has turnover of US$15 billion and employs 27,000 people in over 90 countries, is also involved in the biotechnology sector and genome research.

According to Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola, Swiss Engineering, specialised in managing and transforming domestic and hospital waste and environmental services, had also shown interest in entering the Angolan market in the pharmaceutical and agri-food sectors.
