Core Tip: Petaluma, Calif.-based Rancho Feeding Corporation recalled approximately 8,742,700 lbs. of meat products that were processed from diseased and "unsound" animals without federal inspection
Petaluma, Calif.-based Rancho Feeding Corporation recalled approximately 8,742,700 lbs. of meat products that were processed from diseased and "unsound" animals without federal inspection, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the products.

FSIS has been investigating the company on concerns Rancho Feeding has been producing meat products without federal inspection. The company issued two previous recalls in January. The agency said the lack of inspection rendered the products unwholesome and thus unfit for human consumption. Products included: beef heads, tripe, tongue, hearts and other items.

FSIS said beef carcasses and boxes bear the establishment number "EST. 527" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each box bears the case code number ending in “3” or “4.” The products were produced Jan. 1, 2013 through Jan. 7, 2014 and shipped to distribution centers and retail firms in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas.
