Greater productivity must be managed in Argentina’s beef industry, a technical committee has concluded.

Agriculture undersecretary Gabriel Delgado said proof points must be used to benchmark vital progress.

This was during a meeting between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Institute for the Promotion of Beef (IPCVA) which listed higher kilos per animal and weaning percentages as 'tools of change'.

Economic factors such as opening up more export opportunities and increasing finance availability for farmers were also discussed as industry catalysts.

IPVCA President Gonzalo Alvarez Maldonado said the meeting was very positive and that it offered a spot light for the work of the IPCVA.

Traceability was also highlighted.

Livestock Undersecretary, George Dillon said: "The idea is that the national state is the guarantor of the transparency of Argentine meat system whether it be health, tax paid by industry or retail wise.”
