In Switzerland they sold more fresh fruit and vegetables last year than in 2012, reports the Swiss website Bauernzeitung.ch. Sales figures of fruit and vegetables show significant growth since 2012.

While sales volumes of conventionally grown vegetables and fruits only slightly increased, sales on organic products increased far above average. A total of 397,610 tonnes of fresh vegetables and 385,585 tonnes of fresh fruit were sold in retail in the past year. In addition, you can find distinct differences between individual quarters.

For years vegetables have been the most sold in the second quarter, while sales in the third quarter have clearly fallen back. According to the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (BLW) the reasons for the weaker sales between July and September, are the holiday season and the harvest from private vegetable gardens at this time of the year.

With vegetables the quarterly differences are less obvious. In the third quarter of 2013 sales were the highest, which is due to the hot summer.
