France exported 1.1 million tonnes of soft wheat outside the European Union in April, taking the volume since the start of the 2013/14 season in July to 10.5 million tonnes, up 19 percent on the same period in 2012/13, customs data showed on Tuesday. Total soft wheat exports, including those to other EU countries, totalled 1.7 million in April, bringing shipments to 16.1 million tonnes in the first 10 months of the season, up 10 percent on a year ago.
Nearly 440,000 tonnes of French wheat were shipped to Morocco in April, as importers rushed to benefit from the last month without customs duty on wheat imports in the country. Total sales of French wheat to the North African country in July-April stood at 1.8 million tonnes, up 35 percent on year. The customs data also showed April shipments of nearly 370,000 tonnes to Algeria, France's main market for soft wheat.
