August 1, 2014, Ottawa: On July 7th, 2014, in Manitoba Provincial Court, Nutreco Canada Inc., doing business as Landmark Feeds of Otterburne, Manitoba, entered a guilty plea to one count under section 3(1)(c) of the Feeds Act. The company was ordered to pay a $40,000 fine.

A Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) investigation conducted between January 21st and April 21st, 2013, determined that the company manufactured and sold a swine feed product, which included a medicated ingredient that was not included on the product label. Also, the product did not provide instructions that required a withdrawal period prior to animals being shipped for slaughter.

The CFIA enforces federal legislation including the Feeds Act and Regulations. The CFIA safeguards food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy, and access to international markets.
