Indonesian multi-format retailer Matahari Putra Prima has expanded its retail presence in the country by opening a new upmarket grocery retail store format.
The new store format, located at the new MaxxBox Lippo Village in Karawaci, Tangerang, under Foodmart Primo brand follows the company's observation and analytical studies on Indonesian shopping trends.
As part of its study, the company found that the rate of middle class consumption is increasing across the region.
Matahari Putra Prima Foodmart operations director Dave Rao said: "With the opening of MaxxBox, we have the opportunity to open our first "upmarket" store under the Foodmart Primo brand. Primo means top quality."
The Foodmart Primo store houses ready-to-eat section, boutique bakery and wine station. It will also offer local and imported goods to the growing international community in Lippo Village.
The store will also sell a wide range of local, imported fruits and vegetable, as well as beef, poultry, seafood and delicatessen.
Matahari Putra Prima operates a chain of retail stores. The company operates hypermarts, foodmarts, and Boston health and beauty stores.
As of 31 December 2014, the retailer operated 267 locations in Jakarta and other cities in Indonesia.
