Since 2004 fresh fruit, healthy vegetables and exotic delicacies have been traded every day at the Frischezentrum Frankfurt am Main, the wholesale market of the metropolis along the river Main. More than 10 years after the opening of the wholesale market it is still in good shape with satisfied traders. “One of the great benefits of the wholesale market is the close link with the motorway,” explains Ruhi Yavuz, one of the tenants at the wholesale market.
“Good capacity”
The wholesale market covers a surface of 13.3 hectares and is equipped with the newest storage and refrigeration techniques. The beating heart of the wholesale market is the 23,000-m2 large sales hall, where the stands of the individual tenants are. Silke Pfeffer, the new managing director and longtime representative of the market, wants the wholesale market to continue to grow. Spokesperson Andrea Peters states: “Considering the amount of traders we have a good capacity. However we still want to grow and expand new branches and services such as delivery.”
"Perfect conditions"
“The direct contact with the customers is important for me,” explains Ralf Wisser the director of the company Wisser his motivation. “The wholesales market offers the perfect condition for successful trading.” Every year an estimated 300,000 metric tons of fruit and vegetables are sold at the wholesale market.
“It is our goal to satisfy the traders and enable them to make money. That is why we have to work on the best conditions,” continues Silke Pfeffer. The wholesale market is jointly controlled by the wholesale market (75%) and the city of Frankfurt (25%).
