Jalandhar Potato Growers’ Association (JPGA) has dumped five trucks packed with Uttar Pradesh potatoes and seeds in open fields at Jallowal village near Nakodar on Saturday.
On November 24, the police had seized trucks from farm house of Jasbir Singh, sarpanch of Balkona village, 9 km from Nakodar, on the complaint of the association.
The association had alleged that sarpanch had been running an illegal trade by selling Uttar Pradesh potatoes and seeds (3,797 quality) by packing them in new bags carrying hallmarks of various Jalandhar-based farmhouses, including Gurleen Farm, JS Farm, Bal Farm and JPGA’s registration number 1520.
The police had registered a case against Jasbir under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Association’s representatives Ashwinder Pal Singh, Jugraj Singh and Ravinder Singh said that an auction of potatoes and seeds were held on court’s order and the association paid Rs 300,000 for them.
Later, trucks packed with 1,500 gunny bags, were taken to open fields at Jallowal village, where they dumped potatoes and seeds.
