The project APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits, reports that Polish apples are currently the cheapest. in Eastern Europe. According to the project’s data, Polish orchards are selling apples for 0.15-0.31 Euro/kg. For comparison: Ukraine’s apples cost between 0.21-0.41 Euro/kg, in Russia sales are between 0.52-0.82 Euro/kg, and in Moldova and Belarus sales start from 0.28 Euro/kg.
The extremely low demand from exporters is a major cause of the low prices in Poland. At the same time, the manufacturers hope that the supply of apples to foreign markets will soon increase, following the example of last year, allowing growers to increase their selling prices. Last year from the beginning of February until the end of the season the price of apples in Poland doubled due to exports.
In the present season apple prices in Poland are around a third higher than in the last few years, due to the decline in apple production, not only in Poland but also in the EU as a whole. For comparison, at the end of January 2015 the main sales of these fruits were carried out within the limits of 0.09-0.25 Euro/kg.
