The area figures of fruiting vegetables or greenhouse vegetables in 2016 have been announced for the LAVA auctions. These are the areas of all growers connected to the LAVA auctions, including the Dutch growers connected to Belgian auctions. Last year the increase of the cucumber area stood out, but this year there are no extreme rises or falls.

Tomatoes
Benny Cuypers of LAVA indicates that the area of loose tomatoes remains almost equal. "But there are shifts in tomatoes: less beef tomatoes and more specialties." He sees a slight increase in area in vine tomatoes. "This is the case in both traditional vine (segments Elite, Princess and Tomabel) as well as specialties. In general the area of specialties is increasing every year."

Pepper and aubergine
The area of peppers will remain almost the same compared to last year and there are very limited shifts in colours. The aubergine area also hasn't changed compared to 2015.

Cucumber
Benny says that there is a further light extension of the area, an increase of around 6%. "In 2015 the extension was quite considerable at 20%. This also had to do with more Dutch growers joining the LAVA auctions. There is also an increase of around 10% in courgettes."
