The El Niño phenomenon is one of the main factors behind this change in the Ecuadorian banana market. Colombia is suffering the impact of drought and Costa Rica of heavy rains; the decline in the production is the result of these natural phenomena. A smaller supply results in a higher price, and, therefore, demand for Ecuadorian bananas grows.
"Fortunately, the recent earthquake did not take a toll on the Ecuadorian banana production, despite the logistical problems experienced during the first few days after the event, with delays in transportation to and from farms. Our quality remained intact, so we can continue to supply our bananas under high quality standards and with the level of commitment that characterises us," concludes the Ecuadorian company spokesperson.
