RBR Meat Company of California is recalling about 21,220 pounds of frozen pizza because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. There have been no confirmed reports of illness received to date. The problem was discovered during routine sampling by the firm.

The recalled item is 50.6 ounce corrugated box containing 1 shrink wrapped 16″ pizza labeled as “Marketside Extra Large Supreme Pizza” with lot code 20547. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 1821” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail distribution centers in California, Nevada, Utah and Washington. The pizza was produced on February 23, 2017.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed package or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Then clean out your freezer or refrigerator or wherever the pizza was stored with a mild bleach solution. Listeria bacteria an grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product.

It can take up to 70 days for listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, to appear. If you ate this pizza, watch yourself for that amount of time for these symptoms: high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, and flu-like symptoms. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
