Core Tip: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall by Orthodox Baking Co. of its Oberlander Gluten Free Brand “Chocolate Kokosh Cake.”
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall by Orthodox Baking Co. of its Oberlander Gluten Free Brand “Chocolate Kokosh Cake.” The chocolate-filled cake may contain almond paste that is not declared on its labeling. Orthodox Baking Co. is located in Belleville, New Jersey.

Orthodox Baking Co. voluntarily issued the recall on April 5, 2017, after it received a report, as yet unconfirmed, that a consumer had suffered an allergic reaction upon eating the product. Further investigation revealed that the ingredients list on the labelling indicated the presence of “kernel paste” rather than “almond paste.”

Oberlander Gluten Free Brand “Chocolate Kokosh Cake” was shipped nationwide to supermarkets and retail stores. The cake was distributed in 16-ounce, clear plastic packages with wraparound labels. The back of the label is stamped with a “Last Date Sale” of April 30 and with the UPC code #43711 18093 7.

People who are allergic to almonds may experience life-threatening anaphylaxic shock if they consume this product. They should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a complete refund.
