DOM International is recalling Kelly Oysters brand Gigas Oysters in Canada because they may contain a marine biotoxin that causes amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP). No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recalled product is Kelly Oysters Giga Oysters in 70 to 90 gram packages. The code on the product is 17-MA-05. They may have been sold at Daily Seafood at 135 Blake Street in Toronto, Ontario from May 8 to May 12, 2017, and at Seacore Seafood/Seafood Depot at 81 Aviva Park Drive in Vaughan, Ontario from May 8 to May 12, 2017. The oysters may also have been sold at Diana’s Seafood Delight at 2101 Lawrence Avenue East in Toronto from May 8 to May 12, 2017, and from Profishionals at 153, avenue Mozart est, in Montreal, Quebec from May 7 to May 12, 2017. The oysters may have been sold at other stores too; check with your retailer to make sure.

If you purchased these oysters, do not eat them. Amnesic shellfish poisoning is caused by domoic acid, a biotoxin that causes symptoms that include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea to muscle weakness, disorientation, and memory loss about 30 minutes to 5 hours after consumption. This illness can kill. If you feel sick after eating oysters, see your doctor immediately.
