Hudson Valley Foods is recalling Bhu Foods Protein Bars in various flavors because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Sunflower seeds provided to them by their supplier have the potential to be contaminated. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.
These are the flavors recalled, that were produced from May 9, 2017 – June 9, 2017: Organic Vegan Protein – Chocolate + Tart Cherry + Pistachio, Organic Vegan Protein – Apple Chunk + Cinnamon + Nutmeg, Organic Vegan Protein – Peanut Butter + Chocolate Chip, Organic Vegan Protein – Superfood Chocolate Chip + Fudge Brownie Batter, Organic Vegan Protein – Peanut Butter + White Chocolate, Grass Fed Whey Protein – Dark Chocolate + Coconut + Almond (Made with Organic Ingredients, Grass Fed Whey Protein – Salted Caramel + Pecan (Made with Organic Ingredients), Grass Fed Whey Protein – Vanilla + Almond + Cashew (Made with Organic Ingredients), Paleo Protein – Double Dark Chocolate Chip (Made with Organic Ingredients). There is only a possibility of contamination, but these items are being recalled out of an abundance of caution. You can see the lot codes of the recalled products at the FDA web site.
If you purchased any of these items, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed package, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Clean out your pantry or fridge or wherever you stored these items with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.
If you ate these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. If you do feel sick, especially if you are pregnant, see your doctor.
