Agroson’s LLC of the Bronx, NY, is recalling 2,483 boxes of Marital Papaya Cavi Brand, grown and packed by Carica de Campeche, as a precaution. Other brands from this farm have tested positive for Salmonella bacteria.
The product was distributed to wholesalers in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey, from July 16 to 19, 2017. The product was sold further to retail consumers. The papayas were available for sale until July 31 2017. The papayas can be identified by the PLU sticker, cave MEXICO 4395. No other papayas distributed by Argroson’s LLC are recalled.
Wholesalers can identify the product by codes located above the handle on the master carton. The codes include: 3044, 3045 and 3050. The farm that grew the papayas is also listed on the upper left side of the master carton: CARICA DE CAMPHE.
Agroson’s LLC was notified by the FDA on August 2, 2017, that several brands of Maradol Papaya from that farm, Carica de Campeche, had tested positive for Salmonella bacteria. None of the brands were specifically Cavi brand, but as a precaution FDA officials recommended a recall of all of the papayas imported in the month of July from this farm. The company has stopped importing papayas from that grower.
No illnesses have been reported from the Maradol papayas Cavi brand. There is a Salmonella outbreak associated with another brand of Maradol papayas. If you purchased this fruit, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
