With their vegetable packets for on the grill, ZON and Staay-Van Rijn are playing into the trend of the flexitarian: people who replace meat with extra vegetables one or more days a week. Combined with the summer, ZON believes this offers opportunities for grilling vegetables.
ZON Marketing trainee Isabelle Flachsenberg: 'Sales and marketing company Staay-Van Rijn B.V. has Aldi as one of its customers and believed they would be a customer for a grill mix packet. In the end the first grill mix packet was in stores in June. A traditional combination of aubergine, courgette, peppers and pointed peppers was chosen for the introduction.'
Winter
The packet has been popular. Meanwhile, ZON has supplied over 40,000 of them. ZON takes care of the packaging, whilst Staay-Van Rijn organise the logistics to the customers. Product Leadership Manager Wouter van Dijk: 'We were soon asked whether we could bring out a new grill mix package. The composition of this second packet hasn't been decided yet, but the fact that there is demand is already positive, as you don't get this demand if it isn't going well. We want to offer the second packet this summer, as a success story like this could be our way in with other retailers. We are also looking at what else we can do together with Staay-Van Rijn: not just grill packets, but also winter versions.'
