Salad Kits and Stir Fry Mixes Recalled in Alaska for Possible Food Contamination

Triple B Corporation, headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, has now recalled eight (8) different vegetable products in connection with the major October 19th recall by Mann Packing of many of its minimally processed vegetable items. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reports that the broccoli florets, stir fry kits, and other vegetable products being recalled may possibly be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause a serious form of food poisoning.

All of the items affected by Triple B Corporation’s recall were prepared using potentially contaminated broccoli provided by Mann Packing of Salinas, California. They were then shipped to retail store delis throughout the state of Alaska.

The eight (8) recalled vegetable products are: Broccoli Crunch Kit (UPC code: 97327 10070 8; Pack date: 10/20/17; Use by date: 10/27/17), Broccoli Florettes (UPC code: 45009 00410 9; Use by date: 10/27/17), Stir Fry Kit (UPC code: 45009 85749 1; Use by date: 10/27/17), Veggie Medley (UPC code: 97327 05006 3; Pack date: 10/20/17; Use by date: 10/29/17), Veggie Pack Combo (UPC code: 45009 35124 1; Pack date: 10/21/17; Use by date: 10/30/17), Veggie Platter (UPC code: 97327 07008 5; Pack date: 10/20/17; Use by date: 10/29/17), Veggie Tray w/Dip, 12” (UPC code: 45009 01155 8, Pack date: 10/21/17; Use by date: 10/30/17), and Veggie Tray w/Cauliflower (UPC code: 45009 00633 2; Use by date: 10/27/17).

To date, no one has contracted listeriosis food poisoning from these products. However, care should be taken either to return these vegetable items to the store for a refund or to dispose of them in the garbage in sealed plastic bags. Refrigerator and counter shelves where the vegetables may have rested should be sterilized with a mild bleach solution.

Although most healthy people who contract listeriosis may only experience minor symptoms, the disease poses significant risk to pregnant women and their unborn babies, the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions like diabetes, and those with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women are ten times more likely to become ill with listeria food poisoning than other people, and the disease can result in miscarriage / stillborn births or birth defects. In adults, complications include meningitis, pneumonia, and encephalitis.

The incubation period for listeriosis can last up to 70 days. If you or a loved one experience symptoms of food poisoning – severe headache, neck stiffness, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle aches – please seek medical help immediately.
