Data from the Chilean Cherry Export Association shows that the overall cherry export volume is likely to decrease by 15%-20% in the 2018-2019 season, and the price is likely to rise.

Specialist analysts point out that with an estimated decrease of 15%-20% the export volume is expected to reach around 150 thousand tons, or around 3.1 to 3.3 million boxes. The main reason for this development is that excessive production last season has led to erosion in Chilean cherry orchards.

Apart from this, some of the cherry orchards (in north Chile in particular) did not achieve sufficiently cold temperatures, while other cherry orchards suffered from excessive rainfall and frost. The unfavorable weather conditions further reduced the cherry production volume.

Analysts further predict that the export price of Chilean cherries will rise in comparison with last year, in particular because the export price of Chilean cherries was relatively low last year.
