Belgians have the habit of making a list of the products they need before going to the supermarket. Now, they will not need to carry around their piece of paper anymore, only their smartphone. Colruyt is testing the possibility of creating shopping lists by speaking them aloud.
This new technology would be available to all holders of the Xtra card. “It will enable us to know if our clients prepare their shopping even more efficiently,” explains Guy Elewaut, marketing director at Colruyt.
The list is made using Google Assistant, the voice-activated device that can answer questions and follow voice instructions. The clients participating in this test phase will tell their list of products to their smartphone (or any other device that works with Google Assistant). The list will then be saved in the MyColruyt app and on the distributor’s website. “They will be able to test this shopping list creation tool at any time and in any situation: at home when they notice they’re missing a product, or on their way for example. No need to write anything down or encode products anymore. All they need to do is say their shopping list out loud,” explains Guy Elewaut. The app will also allow users to receive customized product suggestions.
Then, the customers go to their Colruyt store, where they will just tick the products off their list in the app while shopping, or they can also send their list to Collect&Go, the online shopping service of Colruyt Group.
