Cay Thi Queentrees Food USA has recalled 43,848lb of poultry products imported from Vietnam as they were not properly scrutinised.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which announced the recall, said that products that are subject to recall entered the US between 2-25 January.
They were shipped to various retail outlets across California and were distributed via internet/catalogue sales.
According to the regulator, these poultry products were imported and distributed in the US market without the benefit of FSIS import re-inspection.
Furthermore, Vietnam is not on a list of nations that are eligible to export poultry products into the US.
Products that are being recalled by the company include 454g packages containing ‘slow-cooked black chicken ga ac tiem cordyceps sinensis dong trung ha thao’, ‘slow-cooked black chicken ga ac tiem five spice ngu v!’ and ‘slow-cooked black chicken ga ac tiem ginsen nhan sam’.
FSIS identified the issue during its in-commerce surveillance activities.
So far, no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the products have been received. Concerned consumers have been asked to contact a healthcare provider.
The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that consumption of the product could cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Additionally, FSIS is concerned that some products may be in restaurant freezers and advised restaurants not to serve these products.
In May, US-based Crab House Trading issued a recall of nearly 36,040lb of frozen Siluriformes products, specifically yellow walking fish, which were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.
